Happy Birthday Simba

Simba Just Turned 9 !

We can't believe it, Simba is 9 years old today!
It is shocking how fast time flies.

Mom put this dumb hat on me. Phhhtt!
She says it is my special day, really? Dumb hat day?
I think to make up for this stoopid hat mom, you need to make me special foods. I want some fish today, OK?

Once I dump this hat I am going to sit in one of my favorite places MOL on top of daddy cats neck!

Now while I am thinking of more mischief to get into, how about that nommy fish?

Ok Simba, coming right up, some nommy fish for your birthday. Happy birthday Simba boy.

Do Kitties Dream

I think we have a dreamer kitty!

Mom was working in the kitchen and Mr Simba had fallen asleep on the table in the sunshine coming through the blinds. She heard some huff and puff kind of noises and saw him all twitchy. It sounded like he was excited and trying to get something, maybe running in his sleep in a dream?

What do you think? Do kitties dream?

Its That Meowy Time Of Year

Well momma cat really blew it, she let November blow by without a post. We didn't get to mention our nommy turkey nibbles. Phhtt! Bad momma cat! Here we are just days away from Christmas and momma cat is running around like a crazy...um...crazy ol cat lady! There I said it! MOL
Now to make things even more crazy around here, Simba hurt himself pretty bad. We were really upset when it happened but he is doing great now. Momma didn't see what exactly he did, but based on where she found all the bloods, it looks like he feel off the shower door and somehow into the bathtub. Normally for a cat that wouldn't be such a big thing, but he got a claw hung up somehow and pulled off the end of his toe. *shudder* it's just and awful thing.

Here is the side view x-ray, looks just like the toe is bent weird.

Here is the top view x-ray.You see number 4 toe on the right is missing its tip with the claw. It is snapped off :(  this was the x-ray taken before they had to finish and remove the toe tip, they said its underneath in this view but the toe digit pulled away from the rest of the toe. Poor Simba boy. I can't imagine how bad that hurt.
And Simba had the cone already off by the time momma cat walked from the vets door to load him in the car! Phhttt! What a houdini cat! MOL So she couldn't get it back on him and the vet said the bandage needs to be in place for 3 days. It made it almost a full 2 days. Funny thing is, the foot part came off and he still has bandage on his ankle area above the foot. So he didn't mess with the toe at all, he is trying to get the bandage off but it's been a week and it's still there! They got the sticky stuff all over the fur and it pulls it out so he does bitey bite if momma cat tries to get it off. MOL! All should be back to normal by Christmas when the other crazy stuff happens.

We hope you have a purry Meowy Christmas this year, and hope you still love our Simba Santa cat, even though he has one less claw now.

The Rattlie Mice

Yes, it's me Kali, I'm sulking.
You would be sulking too if you were me.

You see, my most favorite toys in the world are the little mice that have a rattle thing in them.
I love chasing rattlie mice. Mom and Dad toss them in the air and I love to try and catch them in mid air.
I bop them around and play rattlie mouse soccer on the kitchen floor and even on the carpet.

It sounds like great fun doesn't it?
Well Simba has decided to ruin all my fun.

There she goes again, complaining about me.
I do an important job of population control in this house.
Those mice are out of control.

Here is the hidden evidence of them all living under the stove.

Dad freed the mice from their prison under the stove.
Hey! A couple of my favorite fishie toys are there too!
I wondered where they went to?!?!

I had a great day playing with my toys.
I had so many to play with I didn't know which one to get next!

While I was having a great time, look what was happening in the kitchen!

Look how he gives them that extra shove at the end
to be sure I can't reach them.
It's so mean of him!

Mazi walked by him and didn't even try to stop him.
Lousy brother cat!

Here was all that was left by the next morning.
Within a few hours of getting up in the morning, they had also been sent back to prison.

So now you understand why I am sulking.
Phhhtt!!

Simba Hurt His Tail

Simba loves to play ball. He loves to chase it, bat it, jump and catch it. Sometimes he even brings it to you like a little puppy dog. Sunday he was playing ball with my husband and having a great time. My husband tossed the ball up and Simba jumped about 4 feet in the air.

Unfortunately Simba is a bit of a clumsy cat and doesn't always land on his feet. He landed on his tail and hip with his back legs tucked under him. His tail puffed up and he hid under a table. We thought he hurt his hip or even his leg. After some time, we noticed his tail was limp and he could not move it. He would not let us touch his back end and didn't want us near him.

Later he came up and sat next to me on the couch and his tail was limp still. When he got up on the mantel and jumped down off the mantel, his tail slapped against the tile floor!

Why does this stuff always happen on the weekend?

We have a super expensive emergency pet clinic that we had a really bad experience with when one of our cats was very sick, so I really did not want to deal with them for this.
(The other cat died after we left it there for tests.) My husband & I were worried sick about him.

The next day my husband took him to our vet and they x-rayed his tail and found one bone that is out of alignment. He has a dislocated tail!
Poor Simba! He had to get a couple of shots and now we have to give him some pills. Today is Wednesday and his tail is doing better. He can move it now and hold it up from the ground. It still flaps when he jumps, but hopefully it will get stronger.

The vet says that only time will tell on how much he will recover.

This is how he held his tail above the ground before he injured it. It was always in a little J hook shape.

Here is another view of how his tail is held when walking prior to the injury.

He would twitch his tail when you talked to him and if you petted his back, his tail would come up and try to wrap around your arm. Right now he can't do that, but he is able to hold it in a bit of a J shape now.

Kali is still trying to chase him and smack him around a couple times a day, so we have to keep her away from him as much as possible. She can be such a brat.

Giving Simba is not fun. Ugh! It takes my hubby to hold him without squishing his hip and tail, and me trying to pop the pill in his mouth with the little pill syringe.
If the kitties only understood we are trying to help them when we poke and prod them.

One more thing, today is Simba's 3rd birthday, I almost missed it had I not noticed on Mycatspace. What a way to celebrate his birthday, poor little owie butt.

Happy Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day, a day to remember our Heros.

The hero I would like to present today is my father.

He was on the crew of a B-17 in WWII.

If you haven't already looked at the link on my blog to his WWII blog,
please take a moment to look at it today.
I have included another link to his story below.

http://teenageairwarrior.blogspot.com/

If you are curious about my flag photo, it was taken on Veteran's Day 2008.

My husband and I belong to Glamisdunes.com.
We celebrate each Veteran's day in Glamis.
We have a Veteran's Day memorial and the flag on the pole
is changed.

Aside from Memorial Day, our Mr. Simba was a bad kitty this morning.

He is a quick little booger. I opened the sliding glass door to get the screen door closed so we could enjoy some fresh air.

Merrooowwwww he said as he ran past my feet out onto the patio!

He was excited and moved cautiously as I grabbed him from above and put him promptly back in the house. He got my heart pumping for a moment, needless to say, he is not very happy to be caught.
