Our Visit to Cat Tales Zoological Park

Labor Day weekend, we had the pleasure of visiting a wonderful little zoo of wild cats in Mead, Washington, just a few minutes north of Spokane. It is also a school for students majoring in zoology and they give tours of the site, so it is a great place to learn about the cats while you enjoy their beauty. My only regret is I did not have my good camera with me, so the photos are not the nice quality of my other photos posted here.

If you would like to visit their website where they have more photos and info about their organization it is:

http://www.cattales.org/

Here is a beautiful White Tiger. He has the loudest roar I have ever heard in my life. He also tried to spray the crowd near the fence.

There are several Leopards on site.

We found the Serval- of course!

The Serval came to them as a very small kitten and she lost her littermate. They got a shelter kitten and they have been raised together.
We saw the Serval licking the cat and we were amazed to see the same exact behavior that our Savannah, Simba does with our Bengal, Mazi. He licks the back of his neck over and over and then a good healthy bite, then he lick, lick, bites and lick, lick, bites!
Every time we see a Serval, we pick out more of the things that our Savannah does that he gets from his Serval instinct.

They had 4 Tiger cubs that are 9 months old in one caged area. There was one cub who seemed to be the most dominate, but they all wrestled and played. We could have watched them for hours.

If you would like to see all the photos we took, click on the thumbnail below. It will take you to my webshots album. Use the slideshow feature for the album since there are over 100 photos. I hope you enjoy.

Visit to Rosamond Feline Breeding Compound

Saturday, June 14, we went to the Twilight tour at The Exotic Feline Breeding Compound's Feline Conservation Center in Rosamond, CA.
http://www.cathouse-fcc.org/

They have several fund raisers a year where you can come in and see all the animals in the evening. Most of the cats active in the evening compared to earlier in the day. Unfortunately it was in the high 90s that day, so several of the cats were sleeping because of the heat.

They have a beautiful Serval that I was lucky enough to get some photos as he was chasing goldfish in a kiddie pool. (I also have a video clip on my youtube video at the bottom of my page.)

There are many Leopards, Jaguars and Fishing Cats.

They also have a Tiger and a beautiful Southern Cougar who is so graceful to watch.

Its a wonderful experience to get a close up view of these animals and also realize how this compound is trying to conserve these beautiful animals.

They have a gift shop and a raffle going on during the Twilight Tour, and another organization puts on a bar-b-que. Its a great place to enjoy an evening.
